Tony Dungy, a Super Bowl-winning coach, put together a 365-day journal-style devotional that is surprisingly easy to read and follow.
Core Reading Themes Throughout the Year
The basic reading themes throughout the book deals with everyday things that are broad enough for anyone: Core; Family; Friends; Potential; Mission; Influence; and Faith. The year starts with the first one, Core, and repeats itself every seven days. By doing this, you can start with the book at anytime of the year.
Each entry of the journal, which is listed by day of the year, includes the Uncommon Key and a bible scripture. The Uncommon Key is something you can work on, or ways to take action on the scripture or devotion that was talked about that day. The daily journal-style entry gives topics or prompts to think about based on the daily scripture.
Great Introduction to the Bible
For those who haven't read the bible, or who might think reading a bible is only for conservative people who worship daily will be surprised that all the daily devotionals have everyday topics. The scriptures are easy to relate to and are easy to digest. For example, April 13's core theme is "Mission". The topic is Mouse-Sized Steps. The scripture of the day is: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. - 2 Timothy 4:7. The thinking points in the journal are how to make those small steps in our lives to help others or ourselves (do we stand up for justice? for those who don't have a voice? how do we treat our families?). The Uncommon Key is: Fight the good fight today - put someone else's interests ahead of your own. This simple topic relates to any person, in any family, in any workforce.
Anyone interested in improving their lives through the bible but didn't know how, or were put off for whatever reason by faith and prayer in general, will find this book approachable and easy to read.
